ART102 - Principles of Drawing

This class has taught me lessons in drawing and rendering Chiaroscuro styled artworks. Perspective and values of light and shadow for realism are emphasized in the course content so I can develop my traditional art skills.

DAA 1st Year Freshman

Introspection About The Course

This course taught me the fundamentals of drawing and rendering chiaroscuro, emphasizing perspective and the nuanced use of light and shadow to achieve realism. I was able to develop my traditional art skills, which I believe will be invaluable in my future career as an Animation Director.

This course was a transformative experience, as I had no prior formal art training. Through it, I gained a deep understanding of realistic drawing principles, including the correct application of light and shadow on basic forms, drapery, landscapes with atmospheric perspective, and cityscapes with linear perspective.

By practicing correct proportions, angles, the subtle use of light and shadow values, and perspective, I'm more confident in my ability to develop compelling concept art and animation that will resonate with audiences. Whether I'm working on concept art or animation, these foundational skills will allow me to effectively communicate my vision and bring my ideas to life.

Week 12: Landscape and Atmospheric Perspective

The Rule of Thirds serves as a visual aid for the rough landscape render.

Weeks 1-10: Observational Journal

Every week, I rendered rough observational Chiaroscuro-styled elements based off of real life people, objects, and backgrounds.

These exercises helped develop my love for doing daily art either digitally or traditionally during downtime at work or here at home.
